Now that we are wrapping up on our discussion of dance, I thought I would share my final thoughts on this art form and the Fall For Dance Festival at the New York City Center. Unlike most of my fellow peers, I have never been to museum exhibits, theatre and dance performances, and concerts. I am the New Yorker who lacked New York culture, and IDC has allowed me to gain a sense of the culture of New York. The Fall For Dance Festival was an entirely new experience for me. Never in my life would I have willingly gone to see a dance performance, especially since it was ballet, and not some hip hop dance show. However, now I look back and realized that I actually enjoyed the performance because of the uniqueness of it all. Out of all the performances, which included Les Biches, Afternoon of the Faunes, Four Bagatelles, and Grand Duo. This was the order in which they were performed, but I enjoyed them in reverse order. The Les Biches performance was too boring for my taste and I could not stay focused to the long, tall, and "tippy toes". From then on the performances became more intriguing. The "wildness" of Afternoon of the Faunes was performed perfect, in my opinion, and the endurance of the dancers was on another level. The following performance classic ballet, which is something I was completely unaware of, because when I first think of ballet I envision something similar to Les Biches. The last performance was a great way to wrap up the entire night. Grand Duo is a performance of the Mark Morris Dance Group whose incorporation of music and choreography was mind blowing. I loved the upbeat dance and it was truly a spectacular site.
