Independent Event 1: The Remains of Romanticism

I have a close relationship with my aunt, who is currently enrolled in a music appreciation course. For her class, she is required to attend an opera or symphony. I decided that I would accompany her to the event to knock off one of my own independent events, as well as experience the art of new york with her as I have become so accustomed to doing in my class. On November 15, 2009 I attended the American Symphony Orchestra's performance at Lincoln Center, performing "The Remains of Romanticism". While I was listening to the orchestra and watching as the conductor gave directions, I was able to notice the fluctuation of the rhythm and tone of the music. Each performance varied greatly. They were played with varying rhythms and movements the grabbed my attention and never let go. My favorite part of the event was the performance by the violin soloist, Mira Wang, who performed the "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra". Her piece had an upbeat rhythm and her expertise was remarkable. It was no wonder that she starred as the soloist. Her piece was very lively and received many applause and encores. The remaining members of the orchestra were in the background and enhanced her performance by supporting and complimenting her piece. The members of the orchestra and the conductor were dressed in black, except for the soloist, who was wearing red. I also realized that I did not really fit in with the audience at the Lincoln Center theatre as most people were much older and of higher class. I heard great things about the Lincoln Center theatre and it certainly did not disappoint. It was truly a great site and a bigger theatre then I had expected.
