Mishkin Gallery

We just completed our "amazing" IDC papers and thought I would reflect on the Mishkin Gallery visit in a less formal manner since I have not done so. Although the gallery was small, compared to the International Center of Photography, there were some photos that I really enjoyed. My favorite, which is the one I wrote about, simply captured my attention because of the beautiful landscape. However, what I learned that day was how often photographers manipulate their photos rather than simply leaving them the way they are. For instance, photographers make use of text in images to provoke new thoughts as well as a change in color.

Photography has always been an art I appreciated with high regard. I don't quite know what it is about photography as an art that sits high above some of the other styles but I also never really see myself becoming much involved with it. My cousin is a photographer. Recently, I saw some of my cousin's more recent work. He is currently preparing for a show in which the photos he has taken are shots of a single person. Through the use of photoshop and other computer programs, he has been able to change the image entirely. The face of the person would not have a background of new york city with the frame of the face. It's quite difficult to explain but the photos are absolutely amazing. He also add short phrases in the to the photo that evokes the emotion he as the photographer feels about a situation.
