The MOMA

Attending the Metropolitan Museum of Art was an eye-opening experience for me. I still don't think I fully appreciate the opportunites we as Macaulay Honors Scholars have. The chance to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in general is amazing in itself. But we as scholars have the chance to visit the museum for free, whenever we please. I took the opportunity to visit the MOMA after our visit at Carneige Hall with the art director. There were many exhibitions being held at the MOMA, but we (Sara, Ross, and I) decided to take a look at the Monet's Water Lillies exhibition. What attracted me the most about Monet's Water Lillies was the use of color. Usually, I am not attracted to paintings. I believe the ability to determine their meaning is a individual skill. However, the use of purples, pinks, blues, and greens in these paintings were purely beautiful. What may just seem like smears of colors on a white base turns into a beautiful garden of flowers when seen up close. The little details of flowers in the midst of the various colors is spectacular. These paintings seem like the perfect painting to decorate a home. They illuminate the room and feel my heart with peace. I also got to take a look outside the MOMA, in a designated gated area where art work was placed as well. I would love to go back to that area again and just relax. It is absolutely beautiful, a perfect place for a wedding. I hope one day I can go back and see more exhibitions at the MOMA. Because of our restraint in time, we did not get to see much besides Monet's Water Lillies. But from what I saw, it seems as if the MOMA definitely lives up its renowned name.
