On Friday I decided to accompany my friend to watch her favorite musical artist, Ryan Leslie, perform at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square. To be honest, I wasn't exactly excited to go because I hardly listen to his music and I didn't think much of him as a musical artist. I thought he was an excellent musical producer but that was about it. After the concert on Friday, I have to say my whole perception as him as an artist completely changed. He is extremely talented not only did he sing beautifully but he also played multiple instruments such as the piano and guitar really well. I was really impressed by him and it was really cool how he explained some of the reasons behind his songs. For example, he wrote the song "All my Love" when he was in a relationship with a girl that he really loved but she couldn't trust him. When he was performing all his songs it was almost as if you could feel his emotion through his performance. I think after you see a musical artist perform their work you appreciate more the work and dedication that goes into making that song. I also think you appreciate their talent even more. I've heard Ryan Leslie on the radio before but his music never made me stop and think "wow this guy can sing" but when you hear him in person you can't help but think it. I love music and how unique it can be and I think regardless of genre, it is still art. Ryan Leslie's music is a form of art because it is him expressing himself through sound and through his words, not only does he sing all his own songs but he also produces them. I highly recommend both his albums :)
