snapshot photo day

The snapshot photo day assignment was a very cool idea. All of the Macaualy students are unified on October 11th because every person takes a photograph of his neighborhood on the same day. The twist that Professor Bergman added was also interesting. Instead of taking a picture of the neighborhoods we live in now, we took photographs of our ideal neighborhoods – the neighborhoods in which we want to live in the future.  This assignment allowed for so much creativity and art, but the photographs that were presented in class exceeded my expectations by at least 500%.

The pictures were incredible. Some photographs were powerful on their own. Others became stronger after the photographer explained background or the inspiration of the photograph. Some were nostalgic and were personal to the individual who took the picture. Some were personal because they were photographs of aspirations. A handful of the photographs were manipulated – cropped, brightened, or made into sepia or black and white. Others were strong without manipulation. Every photograph was unique. Every photograph had meaning for both the photographer and for the audience.

We’ve been to museums where professionals take photographs and have then placed on a gallery wall. I am excited to see our photos on a gallery wall as well. The pictures were so amazing and inspirational. At the event, I believe it will not only showcase our neighborhoods, but also our professionalism.
