Yesterday after I got out of school around 4 o'clock I called up my friend and asked her if she wanted to meet up for lunch since we have not been able to talk much since high school ended last year. We decided that i would meet her at her campus, Fordham Lincoln Center. I decided to walk since I had some time to spare but along the way I saw many things that brought questions to my mind. When I got to Central Park I saw several people on the sidewalks that were there offering to draw portraits of me, selling paintings that were created on the spot, and even photos taken of the great city of New York. Now this may not seem shocking or surprising at all but I still had questions. What makes their art any different then the ones we see at museums? Why don't they become famous for the work they can do? Why don't they make a fortune selling their work? While I see their art as great, do others not recognize the same beauty. Or could it be that the art they create is not as rare to find as say something from Picasso or Van Gogh just to name a couple. I guess it all goes back to the question of what is art. Who determines that this work of art is better than another? Clearly it's not me, but I can still express my opinion on the beautiful art that one can see on a daily basis in New York.
