One of the main features a parent looks for in an area before settling down is the neighborhood's schools and educational system. According to Census 2000 there are approximately 6,358 children under 18 years old living in Park Slope (18.4% of the total pop.) From age 5 to 9: 1,806. From age 10-14: 1,582. From age 15-17: 914. In addition, 33,294 people are enrolled in classes from nursery school through graduate or professional school. Park Slope has numerous public and private schools, some of which are listed below.

The public schools listed in the above table are all part of region 8 and the total amount of children is 6,172. Out of the public schools listed two are majority white (PS 321, PS 107), one majority black (PS 282), two majority hispanic (PS 124, JHS 88), two distributed evenly between black and hispanic (K463, K464) and two distributed quite evenly between the three races (PS 39 , MS 51).
