Obelisco Transportable

As I stroll through Central Park, I came across this tall and black structure that is positioned on wheels. Its shiny four-sided exterior allows it to reflect its surroundings and capture the sunlight in a magnificent way. This structure is known as Obelisco Transportable. It was designed by Damián Ortega, who is a famous artist born in Mexico City. His artwork can be found in his exhibits across the United States and in London, United Kingdom. The title of the artwork can be directly translated into “portable pointed pillar”, using the idea of Obelisk back in ancient Egypt. The purpose of this monument is to serve as a “mobile landmark”. It creates a symbol of victory and new power as it travels from place to place. I believed that this is a very neat idea of an artwork. Instead of the traditional idea of displaying art in fix locations such as in a gallery or in an exhibit, the portability of this structure enable people to experience its impact in various new settings.
