Obelisco Transportable

As I stroll through Central Park, I came across this tall and black structure that is positioned on wheels. Its shiny four-sided exterior allows it to reflect its surroundings and capture the sunlight in a magnificent way. This structure is known as Obelisco Transportable. It was designed by Damián Ortega, who is a famous artist born in Mexico City. His artwork can be found in his exhibits across the United States and in London, United Kingdom. The title of the artwork can be directly translated into “portable pointed pillar”, using the idea of Obelisk back in ancient Egypt. The purpose of this monument is to serve as a “mobile landmark”. It creates a symbol of victory and new power as it travels from place to place. I believed that this is a very neat idea of an artwork. Instead of the traditional idea of displaying art in fix locations such as in a gallery or in an exhibit, the portability of this structure enable people to experience its impact in various new settings.

Little Italy

The San Gennaro Festival in NYC Little Italy has been around for many years. I’ve always found Italian food incredible and this festival made me like it even more. Everywhere I walked, there were food and game stands, with chefs in white aprons making food on the spot, and game hosts screaming their lungs off at strangers. I also enjoyed watching salespeople trying to persuade tourists to buy their things, from belt buckles to cosmetics. Still, I think the food was the best part of all. I had a plate of stuffed shells and coffee gelato, which was really good! Another part of the festival I really liked was the Pina Colada stands, which offered free refills! I didn’t get a chance to try, but I thought it was really interesting. The crowd was so diversified, portraying NYC culture very well. Overall, the Little Italy festival was a good experience and I hope to attend again next year.

Countdown For Shea

I recently had the opportunity to watch a game at the home of the Mets, Shea Stadium, before it gets closed down and demolished. This 45 year old structure serves as a place which has rewarded its fans with memories, pleasant or hurtful, over the decades. I attended the game on September 14; the weather was nice, with clear skies throughout the day. Seeing the pitcher, Oliver Perez, take his pitching stride and deliver his variety of pitches was inspiring. Perez has an unorthodox way of throwing but from where I was sitting, his body motion seemed smooth. Some homeruns that were hit went much farther than I anticipated; it is amazing how strong major leaguers have to be to hit baseballs 400 feet. The crowd was lively until the Braves pulled a comeback in the 9th inning by scoring 5 runs; other than that, it was a great experience.
