During his youth, he skipped school to go to libraries. Authors and books have an established place in his family history.

He speaks English and Hebrew fluently and can read Ladino and Yiddish (Mizrahi).

About the bookstore:

Yisroel Mizrahi had always been a buyer of books. He only began to sell books shortly after he got married in order to pay some bills. Before he knew it, the Mizrahi Bookstore was born.

He usually gets into the store at 6:30 am and he ships about 150 books a day by himself. He has no employees in his store (Ungar-Sargon).
