Located at the corner of 8th Avenue 54th street, what’s better than enjoying dim sums early in the morning at Pacificana? The line is long and the waiting period might take an hour, but at the end, it’s all worth it. Dim sums are Chinese dishes involving portions for three to four people, and are usually served in a steamer basket or on a small plate. Waiters would be pushing carts around the restaurant, shouting the names of the different dishes. Below are some popular dishes that people get: shaomai, shrimp dumpling, and spring rolls.

Food and Neighborhood
The New York Aquarium is located in the heart of Coney Island. You can take a walk on the boardwalk to Luna Park or Brighton Beach. In the summer month’s you can enjoy fireworks on Fridays’s at 9:45pm and concerts held atleast once a week. And for those daredevils you can ride the Cyclone – at your own risk.
The aquarium has a food court where you can purchase soft drinks, pretzels, nachos, chicken fingers, fries, popcorn and ice cream. If you wish to eat outside of the aquarium there are lots of options right on the boardwalk, such as the world’s famous Nathan’s and other fast food joints. There is McDonald’s on Mermaid and Cropsey Ave. There is also a Popeyes and several Deli’s and Pizzeria’s on Surf Ave, moments away from the beach.
Getting here is easy! But might take a while.
To get to the NYA you can take the Q train or the F train to West 8th Street, which directly takes you to the aquarium and the boardwalk. You can also take the D train and the N train to Stillwell Ave and either walk to the NYA or take a train one stop to West 8th St. Some buses that go there (B36, B68)

Basil
Basil Pizza and Wine Bar has a scrumptious meal awaiting you after your visit to the Jewish Children’s Museum. The hipster restaurant has a great vibe and even better food! You must order the basil fries, they are the restaurants specialty and after a taste you will understand why. The pizza there is also amazing; you can even watch your meal being prepared from the open kitchen. Basil is one of the best kosher restaurants out there!
Zaytoons
Zaytoons (594 Vanderbilt Ave between Bergen St & Dean St) is a Middle Eastern style restaurant that strives on ambience and authentic dishes. Each dish was so descriptive and hearty sounding on the menu and they meant what they wrote. Make sure to get the Pita bread (or maybe 2), they are so fluffy, airy, and flavorful that I couldn’t believe I was eating bread. They served it immediately after baking it too, so it was still fresh and hot! Their pizzas are great, and my lamb and rice plate was filled to the edges and filled with flavor, as all of the rice dishes here are. There’s a nice garden for when the weather gets nice and you want to eat outside as well; don’t forget to stop by Zaytoons after a hearty visit to the Brooklyn Museum for a hearty taste of the Middle East!

Nathan’s Hot Dogs. Classic.
The NY Aquarium happens to be around Coney Island, which makes it a great place to visit. After a long day at the aquarium, what better way to relax than to walk down the boardwalk enjoying the view of the beach? While you’re at the boardwalk, be sure to pick up one of Nathan’s famous hot dogs. You won’t regret it.
53rd and 6th Halal Food Cart
It just wouldn’t be New York City without the Halal Food Carts! I’m probably the biggest halal food enthusiast you’ll ever find. I’ve had halal food from just about anywhere in New York City, and at just about any time of day. And I can tell you with confidence, that this is definitely one of the best, if not the best halal food stand in New York City. Just a block from the MoMA, the 53rd and 6th food cart is definitely a must eat. And at six dollars a platter, how can anyone resist?
Nearest Transit:
7th Ave-53rd St (B, D, E)
5th Ave-53rd St (E, V)
57th St-6th Ave (F)
Hours:
Mon-Sun 7:30 pm – 4 am
Just look at all the people on line for that halal food!
JG Melon
J G Melon (1291 3rd Avenue between 74th St & 75th St) is a comfy but classy restaurant, most known for their burgers and fries. You have not lived until you’ve tried their burgers (especially the bacon cheeseburger), moist, juicy, cooked exactly the way you ask every time, and perfectly sized; not too filling, but just enough to satisfy you (or have you wanting more.) On a college student’s budget, I wouldn’t frequent here everyday, but if I could, I sure would. It’s a bit of a walk from the MET, but close to the Whitney Museum. Perhaps you could hit up the Whitney, go for lunch or dinner at J G Melon, then walk off the meal towards the MET to finish your artistically delicious day in Manhattan.
Nearest Transit:
77th St (6)
Hours:
Mon-Sun 11:30 am – 4 am

The BLT Burger! Delicious.
E.A.T.
E.A.T. (1064 Madison Ave between 80th St & 81st St) is a quaint little bakery and deli that is pricey, but has some pretty delicious pastries under $8. After anxiously choosing between the fruit tart, the breads, and the danishes, I went for the cheese Danish. It wasn’t a complete Halal food cart platter, but for $4 after a long day at the MET, it was a tasty little splurge.
Dessert Anyone?
If you’re looking for a light treat or a cool snack, check out Dessert Palace. Located on 2265 Emmons Street, this café is unique in that it has a giant outside area for chairs and tables. In the summer, you can come here to enjoy the view of the marina while eating delicious desserts.

Hewlett Yogurt Station
Town: Hewlett
If you are hungry and need a place to eat that isn’t 1,000 calories, Hewlett YogurtStation, or Hewlees as it is better known, is the place to go! Conveniently located across from the Hewlett train station(hence it’s name), Hewlees offers an array of flavors and toppings, and very interesting ways to mix them up.
The store is “Home of the Hewlee,” which is a yogurt concoction made to your personal liking. You can either get a plain hewlee, or a coffee hewlee. A plain hewlee is made up whatever flavor(s) yogurt you choose and toppings. Toppings also inculdes scones or cookies. All of this is mashed up in the hewlee machine to create your very own hewlee. For all the coffee lovers out there, you can also get a coffee hewlee. Which is basically a plain hewlee, the only difference is you can add your favorite flavor coffee to the mix.
They also have a special two for one deal on Saturdays and Tuesdays! Sadly this does not include hewlees, but if you just want plain yogurt, you can save a few dollars.
Here’s my personal favorite hewlee: Vanilla yogurt, fat free granola, and strawberries. Try it!
