My project is a reflection on how breaking and sneakers have an importance to culture and art. Liu Qingyi winning Outbreak Europe is a breakthrough for her home country that previously had no accolades involving breaking. She will also compete in the 2024 Tokyo Olympics, representing China. Sneakers, specifically the Nike Dunk SB Street Hawkers, have significant value in regards to art and Chinese culture and its food. The Street Hawkers consist of 6 different regional dishes displayed on the toe box, upper midsole, and heel/heel tab. The Street Hawkers were designed my artist Jason Deng, and the inspiration for the design comes from street vendors he would go to when he was younger to grab food. Both breaking and sneakers may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about art, but have their value respectively and will continue to as art and culture expand throughout the world.
