Professor Tenneriello's Seminar 1, Fall 2023

A walking tour of an empty home

Back when I was growing up,

a Sunday so beautiful would have never gone to waste.

and today, the signs continue to read “Children at Play”

but have the children been misplaced?

The parking lot where we’d bike until the setting sun told us it was getting late

remains eerily empty

without any kids who congregate

Even the school fields where I would beg my parents to let me stay

are completely silent

without any memories being made.

It’s hard to accept that my town will never be the same

with my favorite bench so lonely

and only the changing times to blame.

Wow, this is so cool! I especially love the image of the park bench. I admire how you took something some might see as falling apart and made it into art.

It’s really interesting how you reminisce on how your neighborhood used to be as a kid but suddenly is empty and how that brings you sorrow. It also shows how the scenery itself looks quite peaceful as a viewer, but you can’t tell what the authors backstory is behind these photos, like how your town is barren.

I really like how you were able to connect the pictures you took to your past. I also really like how you were able to involve the sense of nature/greenery in many of the pictures as well.
