The sun sets and the world goes dark and then-
The lovers meet under a rising moon
Couples embrace as music plays
Strangers meet with a steady gaze
People know how to flirt, an instinct in our time
We make our eyes sparkle like the stars in the sky
Dancing is a rhythm; our bodies respond to the music
Two people grab hands and start to sway to the beat
Elsewhere another couple is walking into a restaurant, an apartment, a theater, a hotel, a club Everywhere people approach each other and take interest
One kiss between two is an echo of all the rest
One kiss between two is a foreshadowing for all the rest
There are those celebrating anniversaries measured in decades, years, months
Others have not even met yet, future partners who are now strangers
All of it a repeated dance that occurs every hour of the day
The lovers know the song, and play their part.
