The air smelt clean and latex free
The sky was pure and blue,
But deep within the heart of me
A storm was rolling through.
The clouds began to fill my eyes
I taste the stormy tide.
Your chest would fall and then would rise
As tubes flowed from your side.
I gripped your hand with my whole heart,
I longed to hide in you
But rip currents dragged us apart
A storm was rolling through.
The beeps blended into a song
I didn’t want to know,
It meant that it would not be long
Until you had to go.
Your hands were ice and pale and gray,
But still the hands I knew.
I’m still so young, can you please stay?
A storm was rolling through.
The rain crashed down into my soul
And formed puddles of pain
And flooded into my heart’s hole
‘Twas now a hurricane.
But years later the rain would cease
And make the brightest star
The sun now shines and gives me peace
I know you’re never far.
