When you, sometimes in fear or fiery pride,
See fit to boast vast land at your behest,
I catch a glimpse, your veil of wealth so wide,
Of something sadly sealed within your breast.
The crippling crying, silent, sears the soul
As one who feels the nip of time on earth,
You are a smile and wit which make a whole
And it is only you who doubts your worth.
A dad who’ll give to children first his share
Or save an ant from shoe or cat from tower,
Is more than any money claim can bear
For kind is he in every waking hour.
And yet, this day you still do not expect
It is the wealth within your heart that we respect.
