Too Late

by Matthew Spataro

The path ahead was clear to see
But now it is a memory
Fading fast from the corners of my mind
Our bond was as strong as a roaring fire
Burning bright for all to admire
Now the smoke is all anyone can see
For miles…

The map we made has been redrawn
All I thought is lost, is gone
I know that it’s not one but two
Who had become something new
We were young back then
Ignored all the when’s
Didn’t see that we had reached the end
Until it was too late

We try to keep what we had alive
Holding on tight to a firefly
That’s been crushed within our grip
Views of us years from now
Seem like a dream somehow
Can barely even see eye to eye
Anymore…

The map we made has been redrawn
All I thought is lost, is gone
I know that it’s not one but two
Who had become something new
We were young back then
Ignored all the when’s
Didn’t see that we had reached the end
Until it was too late

You’re familiar yet so strange
But then I guess I am the same
We moved on but made the mistake
Of not heading in the same place
I know the blame’s not in our hands
Still I can’t help but want back what we had

Because I miss the you I knew
And I hate what you’ve become

But you love it…

As your friend what can I do?
But let you be true to the new
While all I am is mad…

Is sad…

The map we made has been redrawn
All I thought is lost, is gone
I know that it’s not one but two
Who had become something new
We were young back then
Ignored all the when’s
Didn’t see that we had reached the end
Until it was too late

Too late…
…I miss you…I miss us…
I wish it wasn’t too late.
