Updated Schedule/Research Goals

12/12/14: Finish interview questions

By 12/17/14: Submit IRB paperwork and wait for approval.

January: Start contacting interview subjects, begin interviews, and improve upon questions accordingly. Find more research material on French experiences in NYC through memoirs, films, documentaries, history books, news and magazine articles, etc. Research French culture in New York (restaurants, theaters, neighborhoods, bookstores).

February: Continue interviewing subjects. Start grouping themes within experiences. Start developing map. Continue research on French culture. Begin preliminary contact with French-American organizations for research.

March: Look specifically at ties between place and identity. Continue developing map. Explore Francophilia. Continue contacting French-American organizations.

April: Develop other sections on eportfolio, i.e. photo gallery, statistics, blog, history, videos (?), etc.

May: Wrap up project.

Currently, my projected schedule is still very vague because I need to first get permission to interview people, then actually interview them. Based off of their answers and the conversations I have with them, my project could go in a significantly different direction that what I had planned. I am keeping my schedule open in order to anticipate possible obstacles and changes in plans. I am focusing heavily on place, identity, and personal experience within the realm of French culture. I will continue to do research on this, however, most of my future research will be fieldwork. In the meantime, I will learn how to design my website and specifically the map. I will also locate spots and events of French culture and compile them into an easily-accessible guide for the public to complement the stories of the people I will interview.
