“Campus as a Lab,” is the idea of using on-campus initiatives as a tool for education. The campus serves as a laboratory where students take part in applied research that addresses the various problems a college campus might face.
This concept has already been instituted in various universities across the United States, such as Columbia and Princeton. For instance, students at Columbia have participated in projects that involve reducing emissions by studying on-campus transportation and facilities.
Here at Brooklyn College, we hope to utilize this learning technique for a more sustainable college campus. Here are four potential applications of “Campus as a Lab” that span the educational spectrum offered by our learning institution. Each example is embedded in a particular course offered by one of the four schools at Brooklyn College.
