Learning Goals

By the end of the semester you are expected to:

  • recognize scientific and non-scientific knowledge, and explain how they differ
  • recognize sound science, and sound science journalism
  • appreciate ethical principles in the collection and dissemination of science, and in data science
  • demonstrate Number Sense, Data Sense and Knowledge Sense
  • conduct a scientific research project, and present the results to a wide audience

Teaching Modality

My section of this year’s HON223 will be taught in a hybrid mode, with some online components and some in-person components. Most of the course will be held in-person, and most of these in-person meetings will be held on CUNY CSI campus, in room 5N-216. Virtual components will be determined as we go along.

Health Concerns

We are monitoring the global health situation carefully and paying attention to regulations and recommendations from the CDC, from New York State, from New York City, from CUNY, from Macaulay and from CSI. We will switch to a fully online course if the circumstances require it.

Your professor is fully vaccinated and recommends the same for all of you.
