Our Story

Three Baruch students visited Corona along 108 Street near Lemon Ice King. What they saw astounded them. There were multiple bodegas on each block, yet they only found one store that sold fresh produce in a five-block radius. People can’t be expected to be healthy if they only have access to, frankly, junk. Canned foods are no comparison to fresh foods, and yet that is all to be found inside these bodegas. This website seeks to demonstrate the problem with Corona’s food access.

We met with some local residents of Corona and asked them what they thought of the food they access to. Here were some of the more memorable comments:

“What else are we supposed to eat? It’s not like there’s a Whole Foods down the corner or any organic produce.”

“Honestly I don’t really notice it anymore. It’s how it is here.”

“You think I have time to cook after working the entire day?”
