Ke Zhang, which is located in Flushing, is an example of modern Chinese restaurant with fusion interior (its wall is decorated with One Piece Japanese manga characters) and rectangular tables that focuses more on individual servings of food than family style.
Food Preparation
In one of the food stores in Flushing Food Court, food is prepared and displayed in big containers so it would be easy for the employees to scoop up each dish as orders demand. It is easier for the cooks because they can prepare a large amount of a dish at once and people can quickly buy their individual servings without having to wait for the food to cook from its raw state.
Restaurants in Flushing are as diverse as the immigrants they look to attract. With restaurants serving both traditional and non-traditional foods, these restaurants come in many forms. Some restaurants look to attract the wealthy crowd, making their restaurants look at modern and upscale, focusing on interior design, while others cannot afford to renovate to the wealthy-attracting restaurants, and therefore look more “oriental”, with chairs and tables dressed in a pastel colored fabric with porcelain blue plates with ladle spoons and chopsticks.

From noodles to rice, from pork to chicken, to beef, to seafood, these dishes gives the customer the privilege to choose the main ingredients of their dishes. Cleverly, Chinese restaurants use one basic food dish (like noodle soup) and use meats and vegetables to create an entire menu of dishes. (For example, white rice dishes can be transformed into beef over rice, pork over rice, chicken over rice, vegetables over rice, seafood over rice, sweet and sour chicken over rice, and more.)
