How can we use the Mac’s System Preferences to customize our computers?

  • Language & Text – lets you decide which language you prefer to use as the default language on your computer
  • Desktop & Screensaver – change up the image for your desktop background and screensaver
  • Expose and Spaces – customize keyboard shortcuts for opening windows, application windows, or to show the desktop; organize windows into groups to reduce desktop clutter
  • Dock – adjust the size of the icons on the dock and the location of the dock
  • Energy Saver – allows you to decide whether you want to put the computer to sleep mode after a period of time to save battery life
  • Trackpad – gives directions as to how to use the trackpad to do various actions (scroll down, rotate, zoom in/out, secondary click (better known as right button)
  • Accounts – allows you create new user accounts if there is more than one user for the computer, or customize your own account settings
  • Universal Access – assists users who need special preferences to use the computer more efficiently (zoom fonts for vision-impaired, blinking screen when alert sound occurs)
