For our final project, “Parks as an Extension of Community” we looked at the relationship between parks and communities. Our primary focus was on how New York City’s diverse peoples use parks and outdoor spaces to maintain identity. Working in groups we each picked a park and researched how people use the park. We visited the parks and observed people’s activities, interviewed park patrons and staff, collected visual data, used web-based data and learned much about the importance of parks to the maintenance of diversity in our great city. We hope that you will learn from our projects and take some time to visit these parks and enjoy the many activities that these spaces have to offer!
