Where They Are Now

The Lower East Side is a welcome place for new immigrants.  It has been a home to many cultural groups, prompting many nicknames, such as Little Germany, Little Italy, Chinatown and more.  In the last century, when immigration increased to the highest it had ever been, this was the place these new people came to so they could live with people who understood their position of leaving a country they have always known and finding that America is not paved with gold, but stone.  The reality is, that African Americans are not immigrants.  They have been here as long as America has been here.  They do not really have a necessity to be in the haven for immigrants if they are not really immigrants.
