A Macaulay Honors Student from City College had e-mailed me about a project that he is currently leading. He presented a problem–that the current (at the time) Government and Law Society’s logo wasn’t at all visually appealing. He asked me to design a logo that is much more modern looking and appealing. I agreed to take on the project, and I was excited to because this is a club within the CUNY community, and I wanted to help out.
He told me he wanted me to incorporate symbols of the United States — so I immediately thought of the flag and a column, which represents a U.S. courtroom. I blended the two by making a flag-column hybrid, while making it take the shape of a seal. Red and blue are the colors he requested, which I think fit beautifully with the message behind the logo. Even better is the fact that this logo wont lose its aesthetic if printed in black, which will most likely happen when printing on t-shirts and flyers, to save money. I design my art with this in mind, because no one wants to pay three times the standard amount just for two or three more colors.
For the font, I used either Avenir Next or Futura (not sure). Both are neat, clean and modern. I love the Art Deco geometric feel they both offer.
