It’s an “Illusion”

Ready to see how far your imagination can take you? You’d be surprised by the potential that human beings have in stretching reality and bending it to form the vibrant optical illusions and surreal artworks displayed by Illusion. It definitely left me questioning reality! This blog, a masterpiece made possible by the cooperation of a talented and well-rounded editorial team rather than just one individual, provides its audience with a new lens to view its variety of creations in art, design, photography, and video. The team includes Adriana de Barros, Cathy Lo, Andre Anderson, and Shipra Jain. Illusion is also the partner project of online magazine Scene 360. The vast array of optical illusions and visual tricks displayed through not only photographs, but also aspects of art like tattoos and body art, found me mind blown and intrigued each and every time!

Illusion explores many areas in art, all of which are similar in the fact that they play with the mind of its viewers due to their intricate and unique visual effects. The layout of each post is a series of photographs or various artworks that pertain to the category and a small blurb, typically 2-4 sentences in length, that describes the form of art. This provides viewers a brief explanation of the effect while the rest of the understanding depends solely on the viewers reaction and interpretation to the illusion. A viewer’s own discretion and the aid of the brief text enhances the viewer’s reception of the artwork like this anamorphic artwork titled “Inc.”

The artworks in Illusion are very involving and requires its viewers to analyze while enjoying the aesthetics of the pieces. I know I was really amused and found myself double taking quite often not only while looking at the photographs, but also while viewing artwork that is not as recognized by other blogs, like body art, graffiti, and tattoos. Some even had an underlying message like this car made with painted human bodies, which was actually used for the Motor Accident Commission in Austrailia.

The editorial team has conglomerated a diverse and vibrant collection from many different mediums of art, which makes it different from other blogs in its novelty and diversity. This vibrance is reflected also in the choice of color used for the text and pictures against the simple white background. This allows the blog to lure the eyes of a wide audience, and appeals to the human visual sense as well as psychology because of the thinking that the artwork all require. The art they post on this blog include the latest trends and very unusual, not so often displayed works, like this hand masquerades and paper art.

Illusion also does a great job organizing its layout, accessible by the variety of photographers, graffiti artists, and painters in the audience. The categories are on the top of the site: art, photo, tattoo, illusion, design, community and top 18. More specific topics like “abstract” and “landscape” can be found on the search bar. A more convenient aspect of this site is that all the artwork has these different tags that the artwork can be found under on each post. So if you happen to be on the Extraordinary Mirror Illusions page and wanted to check out more sculptures like this, you could just quickly click the sculpture tag on the bottom of the page. How convenient!

Speaking of which, just look at those mirror illusion sculptures! Who would have thought such a strange looking piece of metal can turn out to look like that in a mirror. I wonder what other illusions can arise from everyday items around us. Guess I’ll just have to check out Illusions to find more!
