Economy Candy Market

Economy Candy Market

Imagine walking into a room literally filled with candy— countless shelves overstuffed with bags and unstable columns of boxes piled 10 feet high. Forget organized aisle spaces and wall decor. If you’re here, it’s because you want to experience what Candy Heaven. Of course, there are many other candy shops in New York City—Dylan’s Candy Bar, Hershey’s Time Square—but Economy Candy Market has an atmosphere completely different from those large, thriving businesses.

This cramped store in the Lower East Side has been open since 1937 and is home to every type of candy possibly in existence, ranging from dried fruit to obscure gum to 5-lb chocolate bars. The amount of variety is incredible, and the prices are so dirt-cheap that it’s difficult to resist the urge to grab handfuls of everything.

My favorite items to purchase there are the candy bars and gum with clever and obscene packaging. They make great gifts for your friends, especially the candy-lovers!
