Tuesday, the 15th, was probably the craziest day. With a “key” dilemma sandwiched between a deadline and an evening event, it was certainly a day of conflict.

It began with my morning commute on the R train to a studio in Brooklyn, where I frantically worked with a friend on the final steps of our low cost housing competition submission. The work was fast paced and methodical until the very end, when confusion, pressure, and panic seeped in, muting our previously sharp minds and defined focus. The project was finally sent in 20 minutes after the five o’clock deadline. At least, it was successfully received, so I celebrated with a pack of Pocky and the remaining Wheat Thins I had purchased in the morning.

As a result of having submitted the project late, I had also left the office late and was thus crunched on time. I was invited to an Awards Dinner Dance at the NYSA – it seemed like a fancy thing, so I figured I should be prompt, although from the way things were going, it didn’t seem that I was going to make the 6:30 pm arrival.

To make things worse, I had forgotten my house keys at the office and had to pay my building management $10 to use the master key. Usually, we have spare keys, but my mother had taken out the keys and had forgotten to put them back. I threw on a dress, scarf, necklace, shoes, purse, and coat and was on my way to the Tribeca Rooftop.

Upon my arrival, I checked in my coat and proceeded to the 12th floor for the cocktail hour. I sat mostly alone, munching on the extravagant mini appetizers offered by the butlers. My previous anxiety and frustration slowly ebbed away with the help of a couple of good bites of chicken satay and crab cakes. I got myself a drink and sat down (after some trouble with finding my table) and was graciously presented with a certificate and three architecture books along with a check! Now very satisfied, I had my fill of food and talk and went home with pleasant thoughts.

Thursday I met with an architect in a fancy office on Greene St. to discuss the possibilities of a summer internship. Friday was a hot pot dinner with my aunt and my mom, and today was a birthday outing at the famous, extravagant Russian Tea Room with my mom, aunt, and brother. What a wonderfully busy week of fantastics!
