Today’s goal was to go to the Farmers Market.
Took the 5 train to Borough Hall, came out through Cadman Plaza.
Weather: 45° F. Thunderstorm, heavy rain and windy.
Time: 4:30- 4:50 PM.
This amature etnographer did not consider the fact that the farmers market, Brooklyn Borough Hall Greenmarket, would not be open due to the rain. As I came out of the train station located in Cadman Plaza, I came out into the heavy rain underneath the dark sky. As I looked around the area, the whole of the plaza was basically empty as the torrents of rain fell down in sheets and the wind snapped my umbrella back. There was an obvious lack of not only people (and the people who were out they were underneath their umbrellas while walking at a fast pace against the wind), but an absence of a farmers market. After consulting Google on my phone to make sure that I was in the correct place, I started to make my way back to where I came. Then, a weird thing happened. As I was hiding underneath my umbrella, a saw the flash of lightning, the distant clap of thunder, and suddenly, the sky lightened dramatically but the rain fell in heavier sheets from the sky as I walked back to the 2 & 3 Borough Hall station.
At the end of the day, this ethnographer had soaking wet feet, a broken umbrella, and with a backpack whose contents were wet upon arriving home (I do not personally recommend anyone to go and venture out into the area).
But on the bright side, with all of the rain, it gave the area a nice quality to it that I found to be quite beautiful.
