Hi everyone! Recently, my girlfriend Sophie (who is a musical theatre major) and I have been learning songs together. This piece is from the musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. This musical is a sung-through adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s 1869 novel War and Peace. In the musical, the piece is sung when a Russian countess longs for her fiancé, a prince who is away at war. Learning this piece was challenging because of the odd time signature which went back and forth between 6/8 and 3/4. Accompanying a singer is always a great experience as a pianist, as it forced myself to truly listen and set the landscape behind the melody. Please enjoy 🙂
