“And don’t waste your time asking this sub-committee for anything else. I am not going to be a part of your disrespect”- Gus Savage, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Public Buildings and Grounds, excavation and construction at the site of the African Burial Ground cut his hearing short on July 27, uttering these words and ordering GSA  to submit an amended prospectus. GSA’s continuous callousness, disrespect, and series of unsettling behavior concerning the African Burial Ground had the local African American community extremely upset and the tension was growing among the press and public.  In such a circumstance, such a decisive and compelling call from the chairman of the committee was much needed.
