This picture shows two Coptic Priests in their Ceremonial Church clothing. The title for a coptic priest is Abouna. Abouna is an arabic word meaning “our father.” In this picture we have Abouna Guirguis, George in English, and Abouna Issac. Priests in the Coptic Church are required to never shave and grow out their beards. This is a symbolic representation of wisdom and of Christ, of whom is said to have had a beard. A priest is elect by the church congregation. In other words the church body picks a male who is close with the youth as well as adults, know the teaching as well as hymns of the church and has the ability to lead the congregation spiritually. Then this elect man goes to the bishop or pope to get an approval and then is ordained by the bishop or pope. These two priest truly are my fathers as well as my closet friends and advisers .
Welcome
Welcome to the Egyptian Experience site! Here you too will have your own Egyptian experience in which you will learn about the Egyptian foods, symbols, religion and more. As you soon will realize that Egypt has more interesting aspects to it, besides the mysterious world of Ancient Egypt. This year, 2011, was a historical year in the history of Egypt. Christians and Muslims alike have fought hard for a government in which their voices can be heard. They hope for a government in which the minority as well as the majority have a say. Although a lot is know about the majority Muslim population, not much is know about the minority Christian populations.
Therefore the religious section in this site is dedicated to the Coptic Christian traditions.
