DUMBO

I went with Mahum to the Dumbo Arts Festival. It took me a while to finally get there since I’ve never been there before and the trains are running on different lines.

We didn’t know what’s really going on and where things are exactly, so we went to see Kenneth first. He told us about the festival as well as his project. He re-named the roses, which are considered as the national flower to reflect the realities of the modern American experiences. Red roses, which normally represents love and romance are renamed as the USA Patriot Act.

Then, he told us about the Hindsight is Always 20/20, which examines the American history through the words that Presidents used frequently in their speeches. It was presented in the form of a classic eye examination chart. It started out as GENTLEMAN being the frequent word of George Washington to TERROR being the frequent word for George Bush.

Later, we just wandered around the neighborhood and somehow landed in the children’s art village by Children’s Museum of Arts. It was my favorite part of the day.

I’m still a child at heart. So, I went and painted on the big canvas with these little babies.

And I made myself a little postcard afterwards.

It looks pretty good, no?

It was really nice to explore a part of the city that I’ve never been to and I enjoyed it a lot. I guess from now on, I probably won’t picture a little elephant with big ears every time I hear someone say DUMBO!
