Photos!
In the course of our sojourn at Kips Bay, I (Hanna) was the photographer who took 99% of the pictures (Allison took two). Most of the pictures are of dogs, which we felt was an important population in the area. It seemed as if every third or fourth person we saw was out walking his or her dogs. We in fact took pictures of the same guy at two separate times- the first as he was returning to his residence with his dog and later when we were returning to the subway we saw him walking his dog again with some friends in tow.
I also took pictures of places and buildings I thought were important to the neighborhood, such as the various schools and colleges there.
Lastly, I wanted to get pictures of us in the neighborhood as a kind of proof that we were there, even though the existence of the other pictures is proof enough. I felt like it needed to be documented that we were there interacting with Kips Bay because we’re not phantoms who can’t be seen or interact with their environment. It was important for us to be seen and I wanted to catch that feeling. (There’s also this really great picture of Noelia tripping that I took. It makes me laugh every time I look at it.)
