Avenue Q

My visit to Avenue Q was fascinating. At first, I was not too thrilled about seeing it as I had read some reviews about the play beforehand but after seeing it, I can say I really enjoyed the play. The play was quite political which was shocking. The part where the Stock Market Broker was gay and was Republican was outside the status quo. I was quite stunned in the beginning when I saw the puppets actually curse and say some erotic things. It is not as if I am against this type of stuff but from a person that is used to watching nicer puppets like Sesame Street where everyone is friends with each other and talk decently. The song that is stuck in my head is Nicky’s “If you were gay.” In the end, when the Avenue Q crew were showing off some Avenue Q shirts and gifts, I was taken aback by the shirt they showed off. The shirt said Donald Trump is only for now. This shirt really related to their theme that everything is only for now. The play really had a life lesson attached to it. At times, we will be sad but its okay because its only for now. The show from the beginning discussed how everyone had a purpose in life. Now although the play ended with a happy ending, it is worth noting that Princeton never actually found his purpose. One can say that his purpose in a sense was to create the school for monsters to win over Kate Monsters’s heart and achieve her dream. In conclusion, I really enjoyed the play and its lesson for us.
