Flowers

This painting “Anthuriums” was created in 1944 by Candido Portinari. This painting is the first one that stood out to me. This is because of the contrast between the colors of the flowers and the background. The background is very dark and mysterious, whereas the flowers are vibrant and elegant. When looking at this painting, I thought to myself that even in darkness, there are flowers. Both the colors of the flowers and the message of this painting stood out to me, which is why this had to be the first painting in my art gallery.

The title of this painting is “Red Gladioli.” The artist of this painting, Charles Demuth, created it in 1928.  Similarly, to the last painting, the color of the flowers is a reddish orange. I found it interesting that the colors of the flowers were the same, between these two paintings, however this reveals a different mood. The light beige background makes this painting have a calmer effect, rather the previous painting is more mystic. Both are equally as beautiful, but their beauty is displayed in different ways.

The title of this painting “Polish Autumn” by Jan Stanisławski. It was created in the year 1900. I selected this painting because it reminds me of the time that I was in Poland. I liked the colors used in this painting, as it gave me a sense of nostalgia. Looking at this painting reminds me of a view out of the window of my cousin’s house.

The title of this painting is “Butterflies”. It was created by Odilon Redon around the 1910’s. I liked that the painter included butterflies in this painting. The setting of this painting seems to be a little hectic. The clouds are white and yellow. Regardless of what is going on in the background, there are butterflies flying and flowers blooming. This comes to show that with everything that is going on, there is beauty all around us.

The title of this painting is “Magnolias and Orioles”. It was created by Yu Fei’an in the year 1956. I like this piece because I like that one of the birds is flying either away or towards the other bird. Regardless of which situation is correct, the bird on the branch is sitting on the branch and watching it. I also like how the birds are the focal point of this image. The flowers are fitting to this painting, as it makes the painting look delicate.

The title of this is “Birds and Flowers of Four Seasons 02: Summer”. It was created by Araki Jippo in the year 1917. I like the color palette that was used in this painting. The colors of the flowers are very typical for flowers, however the background makes this entire painting pop. This must be during a part of the day that it is bright, where the background of the painting mimics the sun. This painting is warm and appealing to look at.

The title of this painting is called “Flowering Plant” and was created by Margaret Mee. I enjoyed looking at this image because of its simplicity. The colors are not very vibrant, however the painter payed close attention to the detail in the leaves. This painting can be mistaken for a real plant. I picked this painting because it is different from the other, vibrant and more colorful flowers, however, it represents the beauty in simplicity.

The title of this painting is “Flower Hand-cart” and the creator of it is Chihiro Iwasaki. It was created in the year 1967. This painting particularly stood out to me because it was painted with watercolors. At first glance, I found this painting to be simple since there is not much detail on the flowers. However, if you look closely, you can see that the flowers are being carried by two young children in a wagon. The children seem young and it almost looks as if they do not see the beauty in what is in front of them. Perhaps they were tasked to transport these plants to a certain location, which is why I find this painting particularly interesting to look at.

This piece of art is a chandelier, titled “Chandelier”, was created by Choi, Jeonghwa. It was created fairly recently, in 2011. This piece is beautiful to look at. I wish I could have such a colorful chandelier in my own room. The flowers are fun and vibrant. In the middle of the chandelier are cherries, which add a nice touch to these fully blossomed flowers. The flowers have more of a matte finish along with the leaves surrounding them, whereas the cherries are glossy. This adds a nice contrast between the two but at the same time, they fit in very well with each other.

The title of this painting is “Vase of Flowers” and its creator is Heem, Jan Davidsz de. It was created around the 1670’s. There are so many different flowers and colors in this picture. Along with this, there are fruits hanging from some of the vines. I have noticed that a lot of times artists include fruits when they are making paintings of flowers. All of the flowers are in a vase, which almost blends into the background since the flowers stand out so much. All of the flowers have a place in this image, even though these flowers may seem very randomized. They bring out the beauty in one another. It was easy for the artist to get carried away with the randomness of these flowers, however they look beautiful together.

    • Thank you! I would hold my show in an empty field. I think that the artwork would bring a lot of light into this space and allow people to truly enjoy it, while also being around nature. My ideal audience is honestly anyone who likes flowers and being around nature. I think that my gallery will appeal to anyone.
