While researching Jean-Michel Basquiat, I learned that he was an activist for the rights of African Americans and the black community. In a lot of his works, he highlighted the regality of black people, racial injustice, and police brutality. After his death, Basquiat continued to influence other artists. The piece above was created by the British artist, Banksy in 2017. Banksy was inspired by Basquiat and wanted to continue highlighting police brutality toward black people. I really love this piece because it continues Basquiat’s legacy and highlights such an important topic that needs to be to discussed and fixed.
This is a fantastic piece. I had never seen it before. I love the homage/mash-up.
