It is hard to believe that this photo was taken in NYC. It looks like the cover-art from a dark, post apocalyptic novel called “Tales from the Wasteland” or some such. I guess the world really did end, in certain pockets, and it didn’t take soviet bombs to do it, either…

I was surprised that, despite dating from 1898, this photo could easily have been taken last winter. All it shows are a few lampposts, bare trees, and a few footprints in the two inches of snow on the ground. It is interesting to see the locations where NYC hasn’t changed much over the years.
