One photographer that stands out to me is Lewis Hine. He used his camera to capture the working conditions of child laborers in New York City, and his pictures were vital in creating stricter child labor laws across America.

Brandon Stanton is especially close to my heart because I have been following his Facebook page for a few years now. He walks around the city, interviews strangers on the street, and posts their pictures along with a quote as a caption. He has created a large community, and his captions allow his followers to empathize with the subjects of his portraits. Like Lewis Hine, he has also used his photography as a platform for social reform – a notable example was when he used social media and photographs to raise over $1 million to send students from Mott Hall Bridges Academy on trips to Harvard.
