Alonzo Jones became homeless upon graduating high school, when his mother kicked him out of the house for wanting to pursue a career in dance. Alonzo’s courage and passion persevered, as he continued to pursue dance in the face of adversity, poverty, and desolation. He soon changed his stage name to Turf, and auditioned for America’s Got Talent. At the time of his audition he had been homeless for two years, and made his living by performing on the streets, sometimes all night. He was unsure of how his performance and appearance would be received; however, his incredible dancing coupled with body contortions captivated the judges and audience alike. He advanced through the competition, and was eliminated during the semi-final round.
Becoming eliminated from the show certainly did not hinder Turf’s growing career. Although his journey in America’s Got Talent came to an end, he was only setting the foundation of his uniquely successful career to follow. He currently has a show in Las Vegas where audiences get to experience his unique blend of hard-hitting hip hop moves, and extreme body contortions in The Ultimate Variety Show and Zombie Burlesque at the V Theater.
