The perils of the Haul Road
Driving on the Dalton highway is an experience that has been celebrated by such TV series as the “Ice Road Truckers.” Also known as the “Haul Road” due to the mostly industrial traffic servicing the oil field operations to the North, this road has find its unique place in commemorative coffee mugs, T-shirts, and post-cards with Alaskan themes. We got our little taste the other day of what it means to drive on the “Haul Road” when we had two flat tires (failing simultaneously!), followed by another flat tire the next day, and, well…another one the day after that.
