Macaulay Honors College 250

Seminar 4, Section 1, Spring 2017

In this Macaulay seminar you will study the interplay of socio-economic, political, and cultural forces that shape the physical form and social dynamics of New York City. Building on your previous seminar coursework, augmented by new material on historical processes, we will engage in discussions of important books and articles on select urban topics, and you will conduct a focused, in- depth semester-long research project. We will combine an analysis of the city’s historical development with a critical assessment of current problems and debates. By studying the roles of a range of forces and actors, both individual and institutional, you will learn about the complex processes of urban change.
