Figure 1- Madison avenue caters to a wealthy class of New Yorkers, which is evident in this graph. Additionally, Madison Avenue’s median household income appears to be continuously increasing. This could possibly be due to the increase in rent, which is causing families with higher income to move in.
Figure 2- The above graph gives a true feel for the education level of Madison avenue residents. The level of education in Madison Avenue is much higher than that of New York City in general. The wealth and class of Madison Avenue is reflected by the education level.
Figure 3- Madison Avenue is not very racially diverse, with the majority of the population being white. However, Madison Avenue’s African-American population has spiked in recent years, showing that Madison Avenue is slowly becoming more diverse.
Figure 4-It is important to note that the percentage of males on Madison Avenue was very steady from 1980 to the 2000s, but made a sharp increase in 2010s.
Figure 5- The married population is relatively steady and is increasing. This may be due to high incomes being able to support families. Additionally, many locals on Madison Avenue are very family-oriented which may have a correlation with why the numbers of married people are so high.
Figure 6- The percentage of the foreign born population has decreased over time. This is potentially due to increasing rates/ wealthier residents moving in-from figure 1. This number will most likely drop as long as the native-born population remains a wealthier group that the foreign-born population.
Figure 7- Total population on Madison Avenue has been decreasing since 1980. This decrease may be due to increasing rents or may be due to increase of wealthier people moving in; these wealthy people do not live in their homes all year round, which means they are not counted in the total population
