Arcade Room Experience

by: Alberto Cohen Shaluha, Shokhina Badrieva

The Arcade Room was definitely a standout exhibit in the Brooklyn Museum. We analyzed the bright, vivid colors and the neon lightning. We discussed how the atmosphere made us feel like we were inside of a video game. We also discussed wether arcade games are truly a form of art. One thing we could’ve done to further analyze the exhibit is talk about the different video games and why the artists chose to include them. If we had more time, we would’ve played each game multiple times.

Egyptian Wreath Headband

by: Mosabbiha Nafisah, Melissa Duchan

We discussed the medium of the art which was gold foil as well as the potential purpose of the headband as a status symbol. We briefly discussed the historical context, noting that it was from the era of Cleopatra and Ptolemy. I would like to know more about the historical period if I had more time.

The Temple – Brooklyn Museum

by: Marco Costanza, Nick Vitale , Joe Shaker

When we analyzed Temple, we incorporated the modern day twist that the artist put on such a historic, ornate temple. The temple looks as if it should be a glorified house, but the inside is something a little deeper, and more risqué depiction the outside makes it appear. My group and I were able to discuss it’s ornate, classical, and elegant architecture enforced by it’s subtle colors on the outside, then contrasted by a beautiful dark gate. Then we entered the work of art and took particular notice on the prayer wheels, that were able to be rotated. These wheels displayed many vulgar, provocative and promiscuous ads, making us come to conclusion that the artist was trying to portray a brothel. We did a lot of physical descriptions analysis, but we wished that maybe we could have done more analytical, deeper meaning descriptions. If we had more time, we could have incorporated the time period and relevance of history to the piece.

Temple – Brooklyn Museum

by: Taylor Lepore, Anthony Raio

At the Brooklyn Museum, we did a lot of analysis of the Temple. We got to see the whole building inside and out. The whole group got involved as we discussed the contrast of the beauty of the temple and the raunchy art. We did not get to do any historical background analysis. If we had more time, I would have liked to jump into that aspect of the piece. Overall the trip was a great experience and I am happy with our analysis and findings through our disscussion.

Along the Way Presentation

by: John Casella, Michelle Hernandez, Jeffrey Zhang

We spoke about the size, shape, color, medium, and distinct characteristics of the piece. We also made many allusions to well known figures like Mickey and Minnie. Along with this, we spoke about the message that the piece may be trying to convey. We did not do any historical analysis mostly because it was recently created (2013). If we had more time, we would try to delve deeper into the meaning of the piece and what it might mean to the artist. Also, why the museum chose to put it in the entrance where it is the first thing everyone notices when they walk in.

Anonymous Man

by: Maxie Safdie, Michael Bildirici, Jessica Pinkhasov

We did more visual analyses than contextual, but we did make some inferences about the man depicted in the artwork. If we had more time, we would have done more research about the historical context of the time period and location, and used that to assist us in our analyses.

Wolf Within (2015)

by: Jane Ng, Julia Zeng, Maria Wu Cen

We focused on doing a historical analysis.
Wolf Within is a social commentary piece sculpted at the height of the bull economy right before the 2009 recession. As appreciative viewers, we can only assume that the artists Faile meant to portray humans’ battle corporate greed and materialism with our love of nature.

by: Angelinna Bradfield, Yocheved Chaya Friedman

Birch Trees

by: YueMin Chen, Haruna Yabuki, Ariella Kornreich

We looked at the form and description. We also looked at the various parts of the painting (like the sandbar?, the trees) and contemplated about what they were trying to convey. We didn’t really look at the historical content because we didn’t really know much about it. If we had more time at the museum, we would have tried to view the painting in terms of the environment in which it was made.

Fallen Bierstadt

by: Julia D’Alessio. Laura Wetz. Jessica Salerno

We analyzed historical context and used formal questions. We didn’t analyze the brush strokes or how the picture was painted and created. We would look more closely at the detailing of the painting if I had more time, for example the detailing or contrasting.
