This is a test post, to see how complicated it is to post a photo on the ePortfolio site directly from a smartphone or tablet computer. In this case, the picture above, which was taken on an iPad, was uploaded to Flickr via the free Flickr app. The URL for the image had to be copied from the image’s Flickr page in Safari (the Flickr app doesn’t supply this information directly). The URL was then added to this new post. It’s a messy number of steps, but the bottom line is that it’s possible to post a picture from a phone/tablet directly, without having to transfer the photo to another device first. Hopefully there’s a less complicated workaround we can come up with.

  1. Hi Geoff,

Not trying to horn in on your test post, but with an iOS device, it’s actually even easier. The free iPhone/iPad WordPress app is compatible with eportfolios, and it will let you post with photos and videos uploaded directly from the device. No flickr, no intermediate steps. There is even a “quick photo” button to take a photo and put it right into a post.

    And there is geotagging, too.

I don’t know if there is a similar Android app, although it wouldn’t surprise me, but the iPhone/iPad app is quite good. In the earlier versions it was unstable and not very usable, but it’s come a long way since then. I definitely recommend it.

  2. Yay, fewer steps! There was a setting that needed to be changed to allow XML something-or-other, but with that change, all is up and running. Thanks for the tip.
