The years 1920 to 1965 are often remembered as a golden era for Flatbush. But as that era of growth drew to a close, serious problems arose. The Eagle closed in 1955; the Dodgers left for Los Angeles after the 1957 season; and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a major employer, would close in 1966. Like the rest of Brooklyn, Flatbush was entering a new and challenging period of change.
