Bright Spots In the Darkness

‘Untitled’- Christy Guo

Like many of you, this pandemic has caused us to be trapped in our homes and not be out with friends as much, and one of the adverse effects of that is the feeling of losing out on experiences and being lonely. This all causes us to stress out and can put a toll on us mentally. This art piece is here to tell you that you’re alright, and this can be a blessing in disguise. Butterflies usually take 5 to 21 days to hatch from their cocoon, but in difficult predicaments, they’ll stay in their cocoons for as long as three years to make sure they come out as beautiful as they can. I am telling you this because right now, we are like those butterflies who decide to take longer than to behold their eyes onto the world. Although we were forced to be quarantined, we were given an opportunity to better ourselves, focus on hobbies or passions we were once too busy to focus on, make time to spend with family, or just simply rest. And once we did those small little things, and it was time for us to settle back into society, just like a butterfly, we emerged back into society as a better and new version of ourselves.

The Difference Matthew  Stolyarskis

What is one theme that has been felt throughout the pandemic? Although there are many, a dominant one is loss. This is felt throughout all families, towns, cities, and the entire world. However, there is always a light at the brink of it all as is shown throughout this image. There is a lot of loss that has happened although we can see that nature resists, life is being built every day that we live and we must continue it…

A future Reminiscent Photo- Roderick Joshua

A photo that will soon bring the feeling of reminiscing; that is the best way to define this photograph. When this photograph was taken, we  didn’t think much of it.  I didn’t think it meant much to me, but as I looked into my camera roll, I realized this picture stood out. In the last year and a half, because of the pandemic, I hadn’t met anyone new and barely created unforgettable memories; this is all changed with this picture. This picture and the memories it holds are something I won’t forget but will be thinking about as I further my career at Baruch. This connects to our theme because this picture represents meeting amazing new people who I am happy to call friends amid this pandemic.
