What do you see going on in this work of art? Is there a story depicted?

This piece of art seems to be a beautiful representation of ancient Egyptian culture, the beauty and culture. From the title, one can deduce that she was of high status or was well known by people in ancient Egypt. Although there is not much history about her life, we wonder what she may have done throughout her life.

What different visual elements (ie: line, color, light, proportions, scale, composition, media type etc.) do you notice, and how do they help you make sense of the artwork?

There are many colors used in this artwork as well as lines, building a very precise and detailed picture of a woman, allowing one to build their own understanding of a woman in ancient Egypt.

What choices do you think the museum made about the object’s display?

The museum paired this artwork in the Ancient Egyptian exhibit with other similar artifacts, allowing for comparison and for one to build up their understanding and interpretation.
